USB Type-C

Apple’s new MacBook only has one USB port. This is the new tiny Type-C version that slowly appears on most devices recently. It is a port that can be connected to external devices, such as hard drives. It also transfers videos to monitors like TV screens, and provides laptops with power when it’s running low on batteries. This new USB port may be multipurpose and flexible, but in the end, it’s only just one port. So if you want to connect some external hard drives, Ethernet cables, printers, cameras, keyboards, monitors, and other computer tools, this may seem limited. There’s also the option of wanting to connect tablets or game controllers.

USB Type Connector

Since there’s only one port found in the new MacBook, you might want to buy a whole barrage of adapters to be able to connect your displays and gadgets.

Fortunately, Apple has this covered: It has provided a set of pricey adapters to carry back the ports from their older laptop models.

The first one is a simple adapter, which goes from a USB Type-C to a standard USB by using a $19 cable. When you want to use more than one device in one go, then you need to get Apple’s $79 Multiport Adapter.

This adapter comes with one USB port, HDMI, and a USB Type-C that can be used for charging. A variant trades HDMI for VGA. If you need to plug in an SD card, attach a Thunderbolt device or connect multiple USB devices, then you have to buy another adapter from a third party.

When the MacBook needs to be charged while pushing a video out of a display screen, then be prepared to spend $79 for the Multiport Adapter, until you find a non-official alternative adapter.

You need to get used to these types of adapters, because the latest version of the MacBook is a sign that the whole tech industry is slowly evolving towards wireless connections.

This change will also highlight the different feelings that come with being a loyal Apple customer. Not to mention Apple has a reputation for removing old technology from their lineup, if it is considered obsolete.

This tech giant wants you to take a glimpse into the future ahead. Last March 9, when the new MacBook made its official debut, senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller, mentioned that this single port design signals the future of wireless notebooks – One where you won’t have to plug cables to be able to connect it to objects
